Key server software written by Michael Graff <explorer@iastate.edu>

For questions or comments regarding this key server site,
contact markk@internic.net
Current version: 2.4 1995/01/13 09:35:25

NOTE!

The WWW interface to the InterNIC KeyServer is NOT supported in any way
whatsoever by Iowa State University, the ISU Computation Center, or the
gateway author Michael Graff. It is here only to help transfer keys to
the InterNIC key ring in order to authenticate registry transactions.
It does NOT attempt to guarantee that a key is a valid key, rather it
serves a repository for keys of registry customers to be used to validate
registry transactions.

#########################
PGP Public Keyservers
---------------------

There are PGP public key servers which allow one to exchange public keys
running through the Internet and UUCP mail systems. The InterNIC key server
is NOT such a utility and serves only as a repository of keys for customers
to be used to validate and authenticate registry transaction requests. This
document highlights the simple actions of adding and revoking a single key
and does not detail comprehensive PGP characteristics; such information is
more appropriately documented by the vendor of the PGP software selected by
a registry customer.

NOTE!

The keyserver processes requests in the form of mail messages. The
commands for the server are entered on the Subject: line.

        To: pgpreg@internic.net
        From: johndoe@example.com
        Subject: help

For example, to add your key to the keyserver, or to update your key if it is
already there, send a message similar to the following:

        To: pgpreg@internic.net
        From: johndoe@example.com
        Subject: add

        -----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
        Version: 2.6

        -----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----

COMPROMISED KEYS: Create a Key Revocation Certificate (read the PGP
docs on how to do that) and mail your key to the server once again,
with the ADD command.

Valid commands are:

Command Message body contains
---------------------- -------------------------------------------------
ADD Your PGP public key (key to add is body of msg)
GET userid Get just that one key
------------------------------------------------------------------------

While the InterNIC Key Server has a specific purpose, other Key Servers are
available to facilitate the use of PGP in day to day electronic
communications. The following list highlights a few such services:

(*) Marked sites are, because of legal reasons, running a version of
the key server which filters keys based on version number. If you
mail in a key to one of these servers and the version is not
accepted, you will be notified via email. The versions accepted are
    2.4 and later.

Check the Usenet newsgroup alt.security.pgp for updates to this system
and for new sites.
